Meet the Chef

Chef Christopher McKenna discovered his passion for the kitchen at just 15 years old, landing his first job at a roadside barbecue joint—and he’s never looked back. He went on to study at Johnson & Wales University, honing his craft in Providence’s vibrant food scene alongside some of New England’s most accomplished chefs.

With a deep foundation in Italian cuisine, Chris has served as Executive Chef for both the Spoleto Restaurant Group in Northampton and Osteria Vespa in Amherst, Massachusetts. From Rhode Island to Massachusetts and now Maine, his cooking has been continually inspired by the region’s rich culinary traditions and natural beauty.

Since joining Colwen Hotels, Chef Chris spent a dream summer for any chef—living and cooking on a private island off the coast of Portland. There, he led the culinary programs at Diamond’s Edge Restaurant & Marina and the Inn at Diamond Cove, showcasing the freshest local seafood in an unforgettable setting. Now, as Executive Chef of Harbor Bistro & Terrace, Chris is excited and honored to bring his latest culinary vision to life within Portland’s celebrated dining scene.

Chris firmly believes that great food has the power to bring people together. In the kitchen, he embraces his love of teaching, fostering creativity, mentorship, and collaboration among his team. He takes pride in building kitchen environments where exceptional food goes hand in hand with respect, growth, and a genuine sense of belonging.

When he’s not cooking, Chris can be found outdoors, soaking in Maine’s rugged coastline with his fiancé, Rosalie, and their dog, Riley.
